About
Field Software Lab helps service businesses choose software with clearer evidence. We combine official documentation, hands-on workflow testing, and clearly labeled affiliate relationships.
How we test
Same workflow. Real testing. Clear answers. We separate official documentation, official help-center evidence, vendor comparison claims, and our own hands-on observations so readers can see what each conclusion is based on. Read our 3-person HVAC scoring methodology →
Grant Callahan — Independent Workflow Tester
Grant Callahan is the public pseudonym used for Field Software Lab’s independent workflow testing and writing. It protects the author’s privacy and does not represent a claimed legal identity or professional HVAC credential.
I test small service-business scenarios from customer setup through estimates, scheduling, dispatch, technician assignment, invoices, payments and recurring work. I record what happens, including scheduling overlaps, plan limits and workflow friction, and separate those observations from vendor documentation.
The published HVAC benchmark uses a fictional three-person business. Jobber and Housecall Pro have full workflow evidence; Kickserv testing used a Premium trial, which does not establish Start-plan feature parity. ServiceM8 has limited exposure and official-source research; products without a completed comparable benchmark are labeled accordingly. Evidence levels and test dates are stated in each article. Fit Scores describe that scenario and exclude price.
Field Software Lab remains the publisher. Affiliate relationships do not change scores or verdicts. Read the testing methodology and affiliate disclosure.
